We came here from Pittsburgh (1964) and introduced the first commercial contract cleaning company here in Centre County,
BLUEJAY WINDOW CLEANING AND JANITOR CONTRACTING COMPANY INC...
I had worked with my father, on and off over 25 years until his death in 1989. There after I worked with my two brothers or just by myself. When the first Gulf War came about my oldest brother left for the desert and when he came back in 1992 he went to work in Pittsburgh for the Army Reserves of which he belonged.
It was then when I began working alone and have been so ever since. Over the years since 1971 except for a stint in the U. S. Army I have been doing window cleaning and janitor contracting.
What I learned from the old man is that being there when you say you will and doing high quality work, as well as maybe just doing a little more than expected of you is how you not only keep your customers’ happy, you keep yourself happy as well.
My father’s first account here was The Copper Kitchen. It was owned by Pete Nastase and his wife. It was where the Lions’ Den sets now. Mrs. Nastase was also my 5th grade teacher back then. I remember the job well because I cleaned the great big plate glass window out front for the first time while I was just 10 years old.
State College was a lot smaller then.
